How we turn your requirements into a machine
Every IMC machine starts with a conversation between our engineers and yours about what you're trying to accomplish — not a catalog selection or a quote request form. We want to understand the application, the materials, the tolerances, the throughput, the facility, the budget, and the timeline before we begin engineering.
From concept to design
Once we understand the application, our engineering team develops the machine concept — the process approach, the machine architecture, the key components, and the control strategy. This concept is reviewed with you before detailed design begins, ensuring alignment on the technical approach before resources are committed.
Detailed design uses 3D solid modeling for complete machine visualization. You see the machine in three dimensions before it exists in steel — reviewing component access, operator interfaces, web path geometry, and facility integration. Design reviews catch issues that cost minutes to fix in CAD and weeks to fix in the shop.
Manufacturing and assembly
Critical components are manufactured in-house on our CNC machining centers and precision grinders. Fabrication, welding, and assembly happen on our floor under our supervision. This vertical integration means we control quality at every step — there are no surprises from outsourced components that don't meet specification.
Testing and commissioning
Every machine is fully assembled and tested at our Birmingham facility. Controls are commissioned, systems are verified, and the machine runs before it ships. On-site installation is supported by our field service team through placement, commissioning, process setup, and operator training.
Lifetime support
Our commitment doesn't end at commissioning. IMC provides service, maintenance, parts, and engineering support for the entire operational life of the machine. When your process requirements change, we're available to help with retrofits, upgrades, and expansions. This is what we mean by a lifetime partnership: support that continues for the working life of the machine, well past any warranty period.
Custom is standard
Most machine builders start from a platform and adapt it to your process. IMC works the other way: we start from your material, your process window, and your plant — and engineer the machine to fit. Our standard machines grew out of nearly eight decades of one-off and first-of-kind builds — they are the configurations our custom work returned to most often.
One team, concept to commissioning
The engineer who models your machine down to the bolts is in the same building as the machinist who cuts its components, the controls engineer who writes its program, and the technician who runs your material in our lab. Nothing gets handed off between departments and lost. When the machine ships, the people who designed it commission it, and they remain your contacts for its working life.
Proof before purchase
We prefer to demonstrate our capabilities rather than just describe them. Our Birmingham laboratory exists so customers can run their material on IMC equipment — establish the process window, generate the data, witness the results — before committing capital. Machines are fully assembled and run at our facility before shipment, and customers are welcome at every stage.
